Funding to support Math Circles of Chicago’s free program for youth
CHICAGO – Avnet (Nasdaq: AVT) is pleased to award 15 community grants that support various organizations across the country. Avnet focuses on four areas of giving and employee volunteerism: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), Communities in Crisis, and the Environment.
Of the 15 grants, four were awarded locally, including Math Circles of Chicago, who impact 1,500 youth each year with their free math enrichment programs. Their programs include the MC2 Hub-based model, which is taking place in 50 schools across Chicago. Participants meet bi-weekly after school from September to May and offer five levels for students. The program focuses on youth from under-resourced communities.
“MC2 has grown to become the largest math circle program in the country, and Avnet's generous support will help us continue to grow. I appreciate Avnet's commitment to giving every child in Chicago the opportunity to experience high-quality academic enrichment,” stated Douglas O’Roark, Executive Director.
Other local grants awarded include:
ACT NOW Illinois: Grant funds will help launch STEM clubs across the Chicago area at afterschool programs.
Association House of Chicago: Funding will support their wrap-around services for individuals and families in need in Chicago’s West Side area.
Code Platoon: Support for their program that trains veterans and active duty servicemembers to become software engineers.
