"We're thrilled to see our efforts recognized particularly amongst a field of such strong contenders."
TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2004--Avnet Technology Solutions, a leading provider of enterprise and embedded technology products and services, has been ranked No. 44 in Training magazine's 2004 list of Top 100 Training Organizations, moving up 27 places from 71st last year. The magazine uses quantitative and qualitative data to rank organizations that excel at developing their employees to deliver business results and support their corporate values while enhancing the work lives of their people. In presenting the award, Training magazine noted the results achieved by Avnet Technology Solutions' Organization Development Team in initiatives supporting leadership development, productivity and ISO quality certification. In addition, Avnet Technology Solutions was also selected for a best practice in job shadowing.

"Avnet has placed a priority on developing the skills and talents of our team, and we are honored to be recognized by Training magazine for our efforts," said Rick Hamada, president, Avnet Technology Solutions. "It has been very rewarding for us to support employee development with such an outstanding team of dedicated individuals who are connected to our strategic goals and continuously strive for delivering business value and excellence."

"During the year the Organization Development team focused on three key objectives: Function as a strategic partner with the business units; support the value-based management initiative of the company; and do more with less," said Joan Flanagan, vice president, Learning and Performance Development, Avnet. "We're thrilled to see our efforts recognized particularly amongst a field of such strong contenders." To support these objectives, the team launched several programs to help business units achieve their strategic goals. For example, the Organization Development team developed HEROES, a leadership seminar for all managers and supervisors, based on the company's strategic objective to enhance employee satisfaction. HEROES, which stands for Harnessing Energy and Removing Obstacles To Employee Success, was designed to build supervisory skills that enable employees to reach their personal and professional goals. This seminar helps to develop the management skills of the company's leadership in specific areas such as communication, goal-setting and performance reviews.

Organization Development also partnered with business units and information technology personnel to gain high adoption rates of new productivity tools. In addition, the team implemented new measurement and evaluation processes linking development activities to key performance metrics, core values, core competencies and operating group initiatives. To do more with less, the team used the virtual classroom environment to reduce travel and expenses and promote immediate use of new sales productivity tools.
