PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 16, 2003--

New tool empowers Symbol Channel Partners with comprehensive search, configuration and e-commerce functions, speeding the configuration and purchase process

Avnet Applied Computing, an operating group of Avnet Inc. (NYSE:AVT) today unveiled a powerful new tool designed to make the research, configuration and purchase of data collection products from Symbol Technologies (NYSE: SBL) faster and easier for Symbol's Channel Partners.

The new tool combines Symbol's comprehensive product families and product data with the speed, security and one-stop Web access of Avnet Applied Computing's Avnet FasTrac(TM) customer portal. The end result is an application that makes it fast and easy to find the complete solutions needed to solve the end customer's situation.

"The Symbol Solution Builder allows Symbol's Channel Partners to quickly zero in on the exact products and complementary peripherals they need to solve their customers' data collection issues, then purchase those same products in a secure setting," said Pat Cathey, president of Avnet Applied Computing, North America. "By taking advantage of the Symbol Solution Builder on Avnet FasTrac, a Channel Partner can logon anytime and order a kit of data collection products guaranteed to work together."

The Symbol Solution Builder -- available in a free demo at -- gives Symbol Channel Partners the opportunity to research Symbol products, compare them head-to-head, and then select the appropriate peripherals and cables based on the customer's application. Symbol Solution Builder only shows options that have been verified to work together, eliminating the guesswork from the configuration process. Once the final kit has been assembled, the entire bill of materials is ported back to Avnet FasTrac for final, secure purchase and tracking.

"The integration of the Symbol Solution Builder to Avnet's FasTrac online tool suite is tremendously important for our Channel Partners," said Stan Jaworski, vice president, worldwide channels marketing and development, Symbol Technologies. "Time is of the essence in today's economy. This implementation leverages the strengths of both companies to provide a tool that makes it faster and easier for our mutual customers to purchase the right products than ever before."
