Avnet hosts STEM Scholars from St. Vincent de Paul

02/12/2026

Avnet hosted 14 collegiate scholars at their warehouse in Chandler in January. The scholars are part of the St. Vincent de Paul First Generation Scholarship Program and are awarded their scholarships through a partnership between Avnet and the Arizona Diamondbacks. All of the students are studying within the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.

Part of their multi-year program includes special visits to learn about career paths. The visit in January introduced the scholars to the field of electronics distribution. Their day started with a tour of Avnet’s programming center, where engineers load customer-specific software, firmware and data onto electronic components. After that they toured the warehouse, where thousands of electronic components are shipped around the world every day. Following the tours, the scholars enjoyed a panel of guest speakers who shared about their careers in engineering and computer science.

The scholars were incredibly engaged in all of the activities and asked many in-depth questions, which led to some group discussion on topics such as AI and how that will impact future jobs.

The representatives from St. Vincent de Paul shared that this was one of most impactful events that the scholars have participated in since joining the program.
