Avnet Cares awarded seven community grants last month – including an environment-focused organization in Phoenix that has diverted nearly 80 million pounds of usable building material from landfills.
Avnet reviews grants on a quarterly basis and focuses on the areas of STEM, Environment and Communities in Crisis.
Stardust Non-Profit Building Supplies salvages building and construction materials and makes them available for the public for reuse. Stardust’s deconstruction team completes approximately 400 jobs per year, salvaging materials from homes and businesses before remodels or teardowns. The recovered materials are sold at the reuse center for a substantial discount, supporting low-income homeowners. Stardust impacts 36,000 individuals each year.
Grants were also awarded to the following organizations:
Junior Achievement of South Central PA (Philadelphia) – Support for their STEM Summit for middle school youth, impacting 11,000 students each year.
Kids in Tech, Inc. (Boston) – Support for their STEAM curriculum for underserved youth they provide to partner schools and community organizations, impacting 600 youth each year.
Makers Making Change/Neil Squire Society (Vancouver) – Support for their programs that adapt toys for children with disabilities, supporting 2,000 youth each year.
SARSEF (Tucson) – Avnet supports the Southern Arizona Regional Science and Engineering Fair that impacts 50,000 youth each year.
