Avnet Cares awarded ten community grants last month – impacting individuals across the U.S.
Avnet reviews grants on a quarterly basis and focuses on the areas of STEM, Environment and Communities in Crisis.
One of the recent grants is a technology upcycling program in Phoenix, AZ. AZ StRUT addresses the urgent need to manage electronic waste by diverting it from landfills while extending its life and impact. Local business and individuals donate their used electronics, then volunteers sort donations for recycling and reuse. Data is wiped from all donations and items that are suitable for refurbishing are distributed to local Title 1 schools and nonprofits. In their 25 years of service, AZ StRUT’s program has resulted in 5,000 tons of e-waste being diverted from the environment and over 100,000 refurbished computer devices distributed to those in need.
