The IABC Gold Quill Awards recognize Avnet in the ‘Special and Experimental Events’ and ‘Publications’ categories
Avnet’s Corporate Marketing and Internal Communications teams have each been honored with prestigious 2022 Gold Quill Awards from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The Marketing team was recognized for their work on the year-long 100th Anniversary Celebration and in the publications category, the Internal Communications staff won for their Returning to the office: A guide for Avnet Employees. The IABC Gold Quill Awards recognize business communication excellence globally and are acknowledged as one of the most prestigious awards programs in the communications industry.
Avnet’s 100th Anniversary campaign ran from January through December 2021 and celebrated themes of transforming technology, making a difference, partnership value and looking to the future. “This global campaign was a great opportunity to celebrate an important moment in Avnet’s history with our employees, customers and suppliers,” said Nicole Freeman, Avnet’s vice president of corporate marketing & communications. “It is an honor to be recognized for this effort that required so much creativity and partnership with marketing teams across the globe.” Avnet’s anniversary took place during a global pandemic, requiring an extraordinary amount of creativity to layout an experience in a year when almost all events and experiences were virtual. The campaign also brought to life Centennial Central which became the heart of the celebration and now an online archive of the experience that will live on as a digital memory of the year. The 100th anniversary campaign culminated with a live, outdoor, in-person events at multiple locations across the globe with the final celebration taking place at company headquarters in Arizona, hosted by CEO Phil Gallagher.
The global Internal Communications team worked closely with the company’s Return to Office Task Force in 2020 to compile, document and present changes Avnet employees could expect when they returned to the workplace as the global pandemic subsided. The Guide is available to employees as an online interactive intranet site, a printable PDF version and a supplemental video. “The RTO Guide is a reflection of Avnet’s commitment to the health and safety of our employees and to easing the transition back to the office,” said Chris Otto, director of global internal communications. “This was truly a collaborative effort that crossed regions, departments and business units for the benefit of all Avnet employees, during an unprecedented time.” The Guide is still updated regularly and remains a valuable resource as the company’s remote workers transition back to the office. This is the second consecutive year the Internal Communications team has been recognized with a Gold Quill Award after being honored in 2021 for their COVID-19 communications programs.
Since 2008, more than 5,000 projects have been submitted for Gold Quill Awards. All IABC Gold Quill Award entries are evaluated by international professional communicators with more than 10 years of experience. The majority of evaluators have earned Gold Quill Awards themselves, and many are either IABC accredited or certified by the Global Communication Certification Council. The Gold Quill Awards honor the dedication, innovation and passion of communicators on a global scale with a focus on achieving solid business outcomes.
