Do You Know Avnet Cares?

03/29/2018

While October is traditionally the time when Avnet conducts its “Global Month of Service” programs, our employees around the world are committed to making our communities stronger through service every day. Today we want to celebrate a few of our unsung heroes with a sampling of some of the great work our teams do through our Avnet Cares volunteer program.

  • The US celebrates National Volunteer Week  (April 15-21) and Earth Day on April 22. Avnet’s Phoenix-based employees will be marking the 25th anniversary of Avnet’s continuous sponsorship of Hands on Greater Phoenix’s Serve-A-Thon on April 14. For this silver anniversary event, Avnet selected Kerr Elementary, a high-needs school in Mesa, Ariz., and just 12 miles from corporate headquarters. Volunteers will help complete a variety of tasks at the school including some playground painting, building picnic tables, and making over the teachers’ lounge.
  • Premier Farnell employees will take part in the Mighty Hike to raise funds for the MacMillan Cancer Support in July. Mighty Hikes are a series of one-day hiking marathons all over the UK. Last year the PF team raised nearly $1K competing in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
  • Avnet Abacus’ marketing team holds an annual Charity Day every September. Each year employees team up with some of our supplier partners to provide help to people and organizations in need. Last year the group racked up 126 volunteer hours, while raising nearly $6K for local charities.
  • Premier Farnellis a finalist for a Campaign Tech Award in the Tech for Good category. Premier Farnell’s bespoke Technology Challenge, engages teams from 11 schools and colleges competing against each other to create technology that helps others. This year’s challenge was to develop a working prototype for a piece of assistive technology for those living with physical or mental impairments. Read more about the challenge and watch the accompanying video here. (BTW - the Campaign Tech Award winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on June 13. Fingers crossed!).
  • EBV supports the Clemaki Children’s Home outside Munich. Clemaki cares for children who cannot be supported by their parents sometimes because of financial or emotional hardships. EBV supports Clemaki children on two important days in the lives of children: Birthdays and Christmas. Each month Avnet employees in EBV Poing headquarters collect and donate gifts for children who are celebrating birthdays as well as playing Santa.
