Bill Amelio has received the honor of being named by Phoenix Business Journal among the Most Admired Leaders in 2019.

He was appointed CEO of Avnet in September 2016 and has been sitting on its Board of Directors since 2014, but his admirable leadership began even earlier than that. Mr. Amelio has served as CEO and president of CHC Group LTD and Lenovo Group Limited, along with a number of other high profile leadership roles. Beyond a notable resume, it’s his unique ability to chart a course and steer toward it that enhance not only stronger company cultures and local communities but also outreach on a global scale.

Within Avnet, Mr. Amelio believes in leading a purpose-driven company that supports important social, ethical and environmental causes. His commitment to “doing well by doing good” is a major factor in the loyalty of Avnet’s customers, the engagement of its employees, its high profits and its ever-expanding innovation. Under Mr. Amelio’s leadership, Avnet has been recognized as one of the World’s Most Ethical Company’s by the Ethisphere Institute as well as a Fortune World’s Most Admired Company for the 14th time.

Beyond the company walls, Bill is a strong proponent of the Avnet Innovation Lab at Arizona State University, which provides business consultation and funding for entrepreneurs developing technology, especially in the Internet of Things (IoT) space. He’s also led Avnet to sponsor the ASU Innovation Open, a multi-round competition that supports student ventures from across the United States in driving technology innovation and entrepreneurship.

His leadership doesn’t end there, though. In 2003, he and his wife Jamie, through the Amelio Foundation, founded Caring for Cambodia, a non-profit organization which educates Cambodia children by building schools, training teachers and providing for basic needs. Since its founding, the organization has built 21 schools (preschool through high school), enrolled 6,600 students and employed 300 faculty and staff.

Through all of this, it’s hard not to see just how much Bill Amelio epitomizes the qualities of an admirable leader. But don’t take our word for it. Thumb through a copy of The CEO Next Door to learn more about the leadership skills that have served him so well.
