Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, today announced that its technology leadership has been recognized by IDG’s Computerworld. Avnet Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Sean Valcamp was selected as a 2017 Computerworld Premier 100 Technology Leaders honoree. This year’s Premier 100 spotlights 100 leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their innovative approaches to business challenges.

“Sean is on the frontline everyday protecting the data and information systems that support Avnet and our customers around the world,” said Steve Phillips, chief information officer, Avnet, Inc. “He has been instrumental in creating a security-conscious culture amongst Avnet’s 17,700 employees, which benefits them both at work and home. Sean’s recognition by Computerworld underscores the instrumental part he plays in ensuring Avnet continues to meet and excel at its business objectives.”

Valcamp is the fifth Avnet IT leader to receive this lifetime recognition, and he has more than 25 years of IT experience in the areas such as IT security, technology strategy, enterprise architecture and solutions development. Since joining Avnet, Valcamp has significantly strengthened Avnet's IT security capabilities to keep pace as cyber threats evolve and technologies like the Internet of Things (IOT) become mainstream. He has played a significant role in educating employees on security, establishing a Global Information Security Policy and building a security operations team that protects Avnet from cybersecurity threats. Valcamp also developed Avnet's annual State of IT Security report, which helps employees and readers better understand major cybersecurity threats and tactics.

“The Premier 100 awards program highlights the exceptional work of an elite group of IT executives who are leading their organizations through times of unprecedented change. They are using technology to drive high-stakes business projects and create dynamic growth in their organizations,” said Scot Finnie, editor-in-chief of Computerworld. “These 100 men and women are not only strategic business thinkers, but also team leaders who recognize the importance of recruiting and retaining the brightest talent to enable digital transformation and harness the opportunities of cloud, big data, mobile and social. We're pleased to recognize their leadership and honor their achievements.”

The Premier 100 awards ceremony will be one of the highlights of the AGENDA17 Conference held March 20 - 22, 2017, at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Conference, to be attended by more than 300 influential business and senior IT executives, will focus on building the digital business. About the Premier 100 Technology Leadership Awards
The Premier 100 program was created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have had a positive impact on their organizations through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively manage and execute IT strategies. Each year, nominees are invited to complete a questionnaire that addresses a number of topics, including their background and experience and their attitude toward risk and innovation. Using Computerworld’s IT Leader Index, which is a measurement of how closely an individual matches our definition of the IT Leader, we analyze the data. Each year, 100 honorees are selected to receive this life-time recognition award. Information on previous honorees can be viewed at: www.computerworld.com/s/article/9065479/Premier_100_IT_Leaders
